Fourth Week: Trail-O's and Training

Last weekend saw lots of training for all the DUO members,
Firstly we had Jana and Julien going to a Munster League event in Glengarra
Woods Co. Tipperary!
A very challenging and tiring course, but great weather and great fun!
Thanks to Cork Orienteering for preparing the courses!

Then we had committee member Conor Short  and DUO
alumni Regina Kelly and Ruairi Short competing at the
"Race the Castles" event in Scotland! This was the beginning of a
long week of training for Conor as he competes in the Senior Home
Internationals in Scotland this weekend. Huge congratulations for
being selected and we wish him the best of luck this weekend!
Well done to the SHI team that came 3rd at the
Sprint event last Saturday at the Race the Castles event!

Last but not least we ran a Trail-O around campus for Fourth Week.
Thanks to Laura, Rebecca, Eoin and Jana for organising the course
Despite not having large numbers due to the atrocious
weather those who did compete had great fun!

Just one last reminder about the Déise Days/Viking 1100 event next weekend.
We have 20 students going down and to say we are excited is a huge
understatement!
Check out the WATO blog for more info:

That's all for now folks!

A weekend of wonderful orienteering... October 4th and 5th

We had a very busy weekend of orienteering this weekend!
Firstly we had the Northern Irish Championship held in
Co.Cavan!

Laoise Doyle came 2nd on W20
and Julien Beuken came 3rd on W20 (non competitive)

Laoise, Andrew and Julien at the start.

Conor Short finished in 3rd place, beating DUO
alumni member and brother Ruairi by just over a minute.

Conor sprints to victory over Roar!

Our president Ruth Lynam won the W21L course and DUO alumni
 Regina Kelly came 3rd.

Also well done to DUO alumni Andrew Cox who came 4th on the M40 course!

A great weekend had by all and well done to everyone who survived
the gruelling training Saturday night and Sunday morning and
enjoyed the talk by Scott Fraser, world renowned orienteer.

Second we had some of our younger and newer  DUO members,
Aisling McMahon, Conor Dolan, Tim Ryan coached by
Rebecca Ní Chonchubhair orienteering in Marlay Park!
Well done to all of you!
